Sometimes we need to take a small break from whatever it is we do. We can get so caught up in our daily rituals. We need to take a moment to appreciate what we have and who we know. We’ve done some incredible things the past year and met some amazing people. We’ve worked really hard to achieve what we have, whether little or a lot we appreciate it and keeps us motivated.
Shot at The Cullen at the Growler Penthouse is our latest feature. If you reside in Melbourne or just visiting, it’s one of the most gorgeous places to stay. Its sister hotel, The Olsen is located just around the corner – both part of The Art Series Hotels.
The Tom Gunn launch held a couple weeks back, see the post here – was not only a great night but we met some really inspiring and creative people there – as well as designers and directors Gabrielle Thompson and Shannon Gunn, but also the hands and brains behind one of the amazing little brands they stock – Knots and Knits – Megan Todd.
Also hailing from Brisbane but with a wealth of experience in her field attained whilst studying in Florence, Megan knits pieces of wearable art out of pieces of rope that would otherwise be used for commercial purposes. The idea is brilliant – albeit technical and requiring some strong hands to knit these suckers with needles as large as tent pegs – the result is a vibrant little beauty that came from humble beginnings. The colours are vibrant and rich, sometimes neon and sometimes a combination of colours, and only a small handful of each handmade. Something beautiful to brighten up winter.
Speaking of winter. Is this weather for real? Each year we ask ourselves the same rhetorical question, ‘was it really this cold last year?’. And the answer is always ‘yes.’. And so calls for layering – like Jesse in these images. Us women sometimes suffer in the name of fashion, but guys seem to be a bit more sensible. Jesse put together a casual look from Politix, with the principles of layering in mind, and instead of runners or dress shoes with this instead opted for leather hi-tops, which worked perfectly with the leather bomber jacket.
Meanwhile I suffer in lightweight fabric at the expense of wearing digital print silk shirts and high waist jeans. The shoes are from Tom Gunn, one of the pairs I walked out with that I’d been meaning to show. The navy snake skin worked harmoniously with the navy in the shirt and jeans from Bettina Liano, with the Knots and Knits clutch breaking up the hue and relatively co-ordinating outfit in a cobalt blue.
So if you haven’t yet, take a break. Sometimes there’s no time but even if for a moment, one night or one year, whatever gets you fueled and refreshed, go for it. And in the mean time visit the sites of the these amazing designers.
